ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Sherwood Christian boys basketball program is coming off arguably the best back to back seasons in school history.
The Eagles though have been looking for a new head coach who can continue the work started by former coach Matt Ruta.
Sherwood Christian Academy has hired Gavin Felix to be the Eagles new head basketball coach.
Principal Luke Bowers says Felix will be moving to Albany next month from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Felix has been the head basketball and football coach at Crescent City Christian School.
Bowers says Felix is a strong coach who relates well with students.
Sherwood Christian will have a welcoming party when Felix arrives in town.
He takes over for Matt Ruta who left for a head coaching job at North Florida Christian in Tallahassee.
The Eagles won the GISA 3-AA title this year but Sherwood Christian moves back to the
AAA classification this coming season.
