AMERICUS, GA (WALB) – President Carter helped rededicate a landmark in his home county Tuesday evening.
He cut the ribbon on what's now known as the Best Western at the Windsor Hotel.
The new partnership with Best Western will help the owners of the historic hotel market it to potential visitors around the world.
The former president and other locals are thankful the downtown Americus landmark is being preserved.
"It's just great. I wouldn't want to do without the Windsor," said Plains native Lela Wilson.
"If you look around as you are right now, you can see this hotel has retained it's former beauty and it's homeliness as it was when it was constructed and put into operation I think in 1897," said President Carter.
The hotel has been renovated with updated amenities and restored wood and marble accents.
President Carter also helped christen the Presidential Suite and Carter Tea Room named in his honor.
