MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) – A Moultrie restaurant owner is hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head.
The woman was leaving Birrieria Jalisco restaurant on when she was approached by two men, one of the armed with a gun.
Commander Alfonzo Cook with the Moultrie Police Department tells WALB's Cade Fowler the victim had a difficult time understanding the suspects demands when one the men shot her in the head.
Amazingly, the woman survived the gunshot and was able to run for help. Her husband was in the restaurant where he got a gun and went after the suspects.
"She ran in and he came outside and exchanged fire with the offenders," said Cook.
Detectives aren't sure if the suspects were struck but gathered evidence from behind the restaurant and in nearby woods.
Cook says the woman was conscious and alert and did give a statement to police about the suspects who are described as black men, wearing dark clothing. One of the suspects is about 6 feet in height while the other is between 5'3 and 5'6 tall.
The victim is being treated at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Moultrie Police Department.
