VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –A history-making Valdosta City Councilman is giving up his seat, but he wants to keep it in the family.

John Eunice was just 18-years old when he was first elected in 2003, the youngest person ever elected to a city council in Georgia.

He's also currently Mayor Pro-tem, but he's stepping down so he can attend Mercer Law School in Macon.

His father is running for the seat.

John L. Eunice is currently the deputy base engineer at Moody Air Force Base.

He retired as a colonel after 27-years in the Air Force.

"I'd like to bring some of that experience and background that John and his colleagues have done to date and help Valdosta continue to grow wisely," said John L Eunice III, Councilman at Large candidate.

"I certainly wish him well and I hope he gets out there and works hard," said John A. Eunice Sr., Councilman at Large.

A special election to fill the position will be held in November.
