LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - Lee County Commissioners formally approved a plan that could save a lot of tax money.

Commissioners okayed a restructuring of the Utility Authority's debt. The new deal could save the county $1.5 million in interest.

That means the county will no longer have to take money out of the general fund to support the utility authority.

County leaders recently went to New York to meet with experts who set bond ratings.

They got an upgraded rating for the county which means it now qualifies for lower interest rates.
