Kiwanis art winner wins confidence

May 5, 2003

Albany-- Taking first place in a local art contest means more than a blue ribbon for one 11th grader.

Monroe Comprehensive student, Angela Van Dyke, won first place in the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club art competition.

Angela never thought of herself as an artist--she says she only took an art class because it was something extra to do. Now-she is planning a career in fashion, "I like to draw and sketch I wasn't in to doing the details. I was surprised it made it so far in a competition that is so big."

Angela and the other contest winners were given prize checks from the Kiwanis Club.
