ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The biggest sporting event in the world, the World Cup soccer tournament is underway in South Africa.

While soccer fans around the world have been looking forward to this event that happens ever four years, interest in the World Cup continues to grow here in the United States.

Darton women's soccer coach Ken Veilands is a big fan of the sport and plans to watch as many matches as he can.

Veilands knows a good showing by the USA team will help the sport back home.

Darton soccer coach Ken Veilands said. "A win for the United States is that they beat a big name country. That they beat a Germany or an England. They beat a Brazil or someone like that. If they do that, then people will get behind it. It will be a big upset."

The USA opens against England on Saturday.
