ALBANY, GA (WALB) –Crooks are targeting Albany auto repair shops.

Thursday a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu was stolen from the parking lot behind J and A Tires in the 800 block of Pine Avenue.

The thieves smashed windows and broke the steering columns a they tried to steal two other cars.

Less than a block away on Byron Road, Crooks broke into two cars at Wright Choice Auto Repair and stole the batteries.

The owner of J and A Tires, John Clyde, says crime is a big problem for small businesses.

"It's just getting rough for the small businessman. And if you don't have anything saved, or insurance coverage, losing customers. You got to take care of that customer's car, because he is looking for you to take care of it, " Clyde said.

Clyde says the stolen car was worth about $2000.
