Albany- Friends, family and Lincoln Fundamental teachers and staff say farewell to their leader. Principal, Janice Shepherd is starting a new chapter in her life, as a retiree. Janice Shepherd says, "The three things I've always looked at is being fair, being consistent, and being firm with what I did with children, and I think that makes it easier for parents to relate to you."

Alice Jackson's daughter attended Lincoln Fundamental, she says Shepherd was always fair, and she helped her daughter become motivated and realize anything is possible. Jackson adds, "She always told students they can do anything they want to do and they should always reach for higher goals."

Teachers led Shepherd in the "Let's Retire a Principal" game during the ceremony. Under each box, Shepherd received a special gift, but the best gift came last. To Shepherd's surprise her teachers gave her diamond earrings and a matching bracelet, but they say even jewelry can't express how grateful they are for her legacy.

Janice Shepherd, an educator, friend, and advocate of students for thirty one years. Janice Shepherd says she looks forward to retirement. She plans to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
