ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Dealing with your property taxes could get a little easier now that the Governor signed a tax reform bill into law. It includes more than 50 changes to current state law.

The biggest change will come next year when all property owners start receiving annual notices of assessment that guarantee their right to an appeal. Tax experts welcome the changes that they say should streamline the process.

"With this notice going out and no requirement to come in and file a return the process is less complicated for that taxpayer," said Dougherty County Tax Director Denver Collins Hooten.

The new law also expands the appeal time period to 45 days, which Dougherty County already observes. The new law also allows the sales price to establish the fair market value for the next tax year.
