On the second and final day of the GISA state track and field meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany First Presbyterian Day School literally ran away with both the girls and boys AAA titles.
The FPD boys won with a total of 124 points, while the girls tallied 85 points. In AA girls action Brentwood captured the state championship with 94 points. Tiftarea finished fourth with 56 points. In AA boys Trinity Christian crushed the competition with 124 points.
Individually Deerfield-Windsor sophomore Jon Jon Benjamin capped off an outstanding two days by winning the AAA 100m dash in 12.79 seconds. It was Benjamin's third state title of the meet and she accounted for 30 of the team's 35 points. Deerfield-Windsor finished fifth in the AAA girls standings.
Tiftarea's Kade Rogers and Brookwood's Will Sheftall also captured state titles on Saturday. Rogers won the AA 200m in 26.49 seconds, while Sheftall set a new state record in the AA 800m with a time of 2:02:05. Crisp Academy's Betsy Curles also took first in the 800m run. Curles took home the gold medal with a time of 2:34.
