Knight track teams both in 2nd place

May 2, 2003

The Deerfield Windsor boys and girls track teams are in second place after the first day of action at the GISA state track meet at Albany's Hugh Mills Stadium.

The Knights are 22 points behind First Presbyterian thanks primarily to the efforts of Kyle Belcher and Grant Walker.

Belcher won the long jump and triple jump and Walker won the pole vault.

The Lady Knights scored 24 points with 20 coming from Jon Jon Benjamin.

Benjamin, like Belcher, won the triple jump and long jump in the AAA girls classification.

Jon Jon Benjamin will have a chance for a third state title tomorrow where she has the fastest qualifying time for the AAA girls 100-meter dash.

In AA boys track, Southwest Georgia Academy got ten points from Brian Grebel who won the long jump title in that classification.

The second and final day of the GISA state track meet will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Albany's Hugh Mills Stadium.
