Lightning strikes Albany church

May 2, 2003

Albany -- Lightning hit a church steeple in Albany Thursday night. It didn't damage the church, but set a nearby mobile on fire.

Lightning hit the steeple of the Victory Tabernacle Assembly of God on Sylvester Road around midnight. The lightning then struck a new mobile home on the lot of Horton Homes.

The 44 thousand dollar home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage. The church's burglar alarm went off, but no damage was done.

Youth Minister Phil Arnold said "It's obvious, it's evident that God is working. I'm sorry that the damage happened to someone else. But all I can do is rejoice it happen to our church."

Arnold said Victory Tabernacle has been struck by lightning before, suffering minor electrical damage.
