ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  The Sumter County Sheriff's Office is working with federal authorities to send a former fugitive back to Mexico.

Sumter County investigators arrested 36-year-old Jesus Anselmo Santamaria last week after they discovered him working under an assumed name at a dairy there. Santamaria was deported in 2004 after being convicted of drug trafficking in Sumter County.

Sheriff Pete Smith told us they'd heard rumors Santamaria was back, and he doesn't want that drug element in his county. Santamaria will be transferred to a federal prison until his trial.
