Mexican fugitive arrested in Americus

SUMTER CO. Sheriff's Office NEWS RELEASE

Americus - On Tuesday, June 2, 2010 the Sumter County S. O. in conjunction with ICE's Office of Detention and Removal arrested Jesus Anselmo Santamaria, age 36.

Santamaria had been identified through a joint investigation as being a fugitive from a 2004 investigation in the Sumter County area.

Santamaria had been convicted of drug trafficking from this earlier case, and was deported back to Mexico.

Information was received by the Sumter S. O. that the fugitive was residing back in the Sumter County area, and after working closely with ICE, the subject was located and taken into custody without incident.

The Immigration Agents are assigned to the Southwest Criminal Alien Program, which among other responsibilities, are tasked with locating and arresting criminal aliens and fugitives.
