Body discovered, not recovered

May 2, 2003

(Dawsonville-AP) -- Rangers have located the body of a 20-year-old hiker who drowned at Amicalola Falls State Park in north Georgia.

The rangers with the Department of Natural Resources found the man just after 7:00PM yesterday near Cochran Falls after an almost three-hour search, but were not able to recover the body.

The accident happened while a group of men was hiking in the area from the bottom of the falls to the top. Recovery efforts were suspended because of the danger of working at night.

Authorities have not released the man's name. The Dawson County Sheriff's Office plans to release more information later today.
