ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The summer travel season is here, and you may have noticed the price of gas is beginning to dip, in Albany it's dropped 35 cents within the past month.

Many drivers are thrilled about the news especially those who will be hitting the road very soon en route to their vacation destination.

Stuart McAfee travels back and forth from Orlando to Albany.

"I'm back and forth twice a month it's bout $80 round trip," said Stuart McAfee, Motorist.

He fills up in Georgia because he says the prices are cheaper.

The state has some of the cheapest gas in the country, the national average is $2.72, Georgia's average is $2.58, and Albany's is $2.49 five cents higher than this time last year.

"Actually here in Albany is better," said McAfee "Orlando is about twenty cents more."

Themon Richter and his family often travel to South Georgia from Tallahassee.

"Not too far from home," said Richter.

He also plans his gas purchases before he crosses the border.

"I was planning on getting gas in Georgia because I knew it was lower," said Richter.

Prices in Florida are also dipping, on Sunday the average there was only 10 cents higher than Georgia's.

No matter the savings travels are happy because they remember how much it took to fill up not too long ago.
