Florida ad campaign to target Albany residents

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – You may soon see ads encouraging you to visit Florida's beaches.

Governor Charlie Crist announced the 90-day marketing campaign Wednesday. Albany is one of 17 markets it will target.

Florida beaches haven't been spoiled by the Gulf oil leak yet. But the oil could reach Pensacola any day now.

Speaking at a Wednesday press conference in Tallahassee, Crist said, "I think that's important for us to bear in mind. Obviously you have to have truth in advertising, so we want to make sure that if it does come on our shore, that we redirect the message."

BP is giving Florida $25 million for emergency marketing to try to make up for tourism money lost because of the oil disaster.
