Dougherty Finance Committee votes for furloughs

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  The finance committee just voted to implement 12 unpaid holidays for all Dougherty County employees beginning in July.

Supplements paid to county employees, like Assistant District Attorneys are also recommended to be cut by 4.6% (equivalent to 12 unpaid holidays).

The committee also voted to request all Judges and Constitutional Officers to voluntarily reduce their salaries or county supplements the equivalent of 4.6% for fiscal year 2011 (the county cannot automatically cut those salaries per state law).

The unpaid holidays will save the county $1,264,301, but it won't balance the budget.  $3.6 Million will still have to be pulled from reserves in order to balance the budget.

If judges and constitutional officers agree to the pay cuts, more savings will be realized.
