ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A candidate for Governor says he has solutions for Georgia's education problems that doesn't involve blaming teachers.
General David Poythress says if the state's education system is going to improve, furloughs and finger pointing aren't the answers.
"First thing we have to do is stop the furloughs. Stop the cuts. We need to put our teachers back to work in the classroom. Second thing we need to do is stop blaming the teachers for the problems in public education. If our education system is not what we want it to be, that's not the teachers fault. My mother was a public school teacher in Bibb County. Teachers are the solution. They're not the problem," said Poythress.
Poythress campaigned in Albany Sunday and Monday.
The former state labor commissioner, secretary of state, and National Guard Commander is one of seven Democratic gubernatorial candidates for governor on the July 20th primary ballot.
