The Monroe girls track team, winners of two straight AAAA state titles, know they will face quite a battle from Northeast Macon at next week's state meet but first the Lady Tornadoes had to outduel cross-town Westover in the region 1-AAA meet.
The Lady Tornadoes outduel the snake-bit Lady Patriots to win the region 1-AAA girls track tile by 219 points to 175.
Westover had 11 point lead heading into the track events. The Lady Patriots got wins from Marie Plishka in the pole vault and Brittany Brown in the triple jump this afternoon.
Westover also got second and third place finishes in the shot to outpoint event winner Cherokee Cole from Monroe. Cole also won the region discus title.
The Lady Tornadoes finished one-two in the high jump with Rushundra Luster and Valerie Brown and Sherquita Draper won the long jump.
The Lady Tornadoes though dominated the sprint events finishing one and two in the four by 100 relay where Westover's top team had their third place finish disqualified for a lane violation.
