News release from the Georgia Lottery Corporation
ATLANTA – An Albany man has feathered his nest with a Georgia Lottery prize.
Bland Brooks, 56, won a $400,000 top prize playing the instant game 20X The Money. "I'm going to invest it," Brooks said.
M D Food Mart, located at 2201 E. Oglethorpe Blvd. in Albany, sold the winning ticket. "I was there in the store, and I was shocked," he said. "I approached the owner, and we had a little celebration."
Brooks said he feels great about his lottery win. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
