Bainbridge, GA  (WALB) - Sheriff Wiley Griffin reports that the Decatur County Sheriff's Office has recovered 35 pounds of pot, sealed professionally in silver containers.

Deputies also recovered $7,000 in cash, and made arrests in this substantial pot haul.

Here is more information from the Sheriff's Office:

Capt. Chip Nix received an anonymous tip that Rodney Powell was trafficking in marijuana.  The Decatur County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of Bainbridge Public Safety, the Miller County Sheriff's Office, and the Georgia State Patrol with surveillance and investigation into this tip.

As a result, Barrett Anderson was arrested in Miller County earlier in the day on Tuesday and as a result of that arrest, leads were developed on Marquita Washington and Rodney Powell in Decatur County.  Surveillance was set up on what appeared to be an abandoned vehicle at an abandoned house on Central Drive, a dirt road off of Vada Road inside the city of Bainbridge, Georgia.

As a result of the surveillance, Marquita Washington and Rodney Powell were observed retrieving 2 bales of marijuana from the trunk of the abandoned vehicle.  When the two left the house on Central Drive they were stopped, Washington driving the abandoned car and Powell in another vehicle, and arrested for trafficking marijuana.

Approximately 35 pounds of marijuana, with a street value of about $70,000, and about $2,000 in cash was seized from the stop on the vehicles.  Another $5,000 was seized from a search of Powell's residence.
