Americus' Carter wins national honor

April 28, 2003

University of Alabama pitcher Brent Carter has been named one of Louisville Slugger's National players of the week.

The lefthander from Americus struck out a career high 14 batters in a complete game win over Arkansas last Friday night.

The 14 strikeouts are also the most by any Southeastern Conference pitcher in one game this season.

It is the third straight win for the former Southland Academy  product who leads the SEC in complete games and leads Alabama's staff with seven wins.

For the season, Brent Carter is 7-4 at Alabama with an earned run average of 3.51.
