ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Albany city commissioners approved a contract Tuesday night, to purchase new guns for the Albany Police Department to replace potentially defective weapons.

The contract through Smyrna Police Distributors totals nearly $46,000.  The department had more than 300 Smith and Wesson 99's.

Albany officers did not report any on-the-job malfunctions with the guns, but there were other reports of problems with the guns.

The city decided to replace them to avoid any issues.  The new guns are Glock 40 handguns.
