ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A South Albany package store was robbed at gunpoint Monday night, even as work was being done to improve store security.

The Brother's Package store on Newton Road was held up just before 10:00AM. A man with a bandana over his face robbed the clerk at gunpoint.  He took a couple of hundred dollars, beer, and cigars.

The surveillance cameras were not working, because of construction at the store. "We pretty much know everybody," said Store owner Robert Taylor. "It's a neighborhood store. It's been here like 20 or 30 years.  So everybody knows everybody."

How unusual is something like this to happen?  "Very unusual. This is the first time we've ever had a robbery."

The robber has a light complexion and was wearing a dark colored jacket and blue jeans.  If you have any information, call CRIME STOPPERS at 229-436-TIPS.
