    The rate increased because of seasonal factors, such as the summer job loss among non-contract school workers and temporary layoffs, primarily in manufacturing. There were 60,500 jobs in Albany in June, down by 300, or 0.5 percent, from 60,800 in May. Most of the loss came in state government and the service-related industries.More >>

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A graduation celebration ended sooner than expected for partiers at an Albany night spot.

About 500 people were at the State Theatre when a fight broke out, and officers responded.

It happened around 11PM Saturday, APD told us an officer had to disperse pepper spray in the air and several people were arrested.

The owner of the state theatre who said the scene looked worse that it actually was, and his three security officers had it under control.

"My reports are they didn't call for backup someone called who was maybe new and wasn't sure how things were going to be handled, but everything was handled in a professional manner, I'm happy with the way my team responded as well as the police response," Lane Rosen, State Theatre Owner.

Rosen said he is happy the department was ready for a big situation graduation night.

APD was not able to get us the names of the people arrested, the gang unity was called to assist with the fight, but police say the incident was not gang related.
