ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Saturday was the big day seniors at Dougherty County High Schools have been waiting for.
Commencement exercises for all four high schools were held at the Civic Center throughout the day for the class of 2010.
763 students from Westover, Monroe, Dougherty, and Albany High crossed the stage to receive their diplomas.
Family and friends started arriving at 9AM to support the graduates the last ceremony wrapped up around 6PM.
School system leaders say students who completed this accomplishment now have the base to be successful citizens.
Grants and scholarships for Monroe High graduates totaled more than one million dollars.
Westover student Michael Lomax the STAR Student for the state of Georgia, was the first such graduate from the Dougherty County School System to earn that honor.
