ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A more than two hour standoff ended just before midnight Friday night in Lee County with the suspect being shot in the leg. It happened on Key Ridge Drive after authorities say a man was trying to harm himself and others.

Sheriff Reggie Rachels said that Jeffery Wells barricaded himself in a home in the Spring Lake Mobile Home Park off Stocks Dairy Road, and refused to cooperate with deputies.

The Albany-Dougherty SWAT unit entered through the front door of the home. EMS officials say Wells was shot twice in the leg during the take down. He was rushed to the hospital; right now investigators aren't saying in detail what started the standoff.

The sheriff says he expects Wells to be okay. Neighbors were asked to leave their homes during the standoff.

The case has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
