Antwone Savage, a former Westover High and more recently University of Oklahoma standout, may not have been selected in this year's NFL draft but that doesn't mean he's done playing football. The All-Big 12 wide receiver agreed to a three year free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals Sunday night, moments after the final pick of the draft was announced.
Savage said he remained in close contact with several teams throughout the final day of the draft, but when he was not chosen he jumped at the chance to play for the Cardinals. Arizona drafted two wide receivers in this year's draft, Florida State's Anquan Bolden and Penn State's Bryant Johnson. All three players will be competing to add depth to a receiving corps that lost David Boston to the free agent market this off-season.
Savage told Newscenter 10 Sports that he was also talking with San Diego and Pittsburgh about signing as a free agent, but Arizona was a place he thought he could make the team and contribute right away, whether as a receiver or on special teams. He leaves for Arizona on Thursday.
