ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany private school hopes a fundraiser tonight will help it grow.

The "School for Children" on Broad Avenue has been open for four years. Right now, 30 students are enrolled. It accepts students ages 7 to 17. The director hopes to double that number next year.

The accredited school doesn't turn anyone away even if they can't afford the tuition.

Founder Jewel Faison says it costs roughly $9,000 a year to educate each student, but she says their learning experience is worth it.

"They talk about how much they love coming to school and at the end of the day we're asking them please leave go home but children want to learn in a safe environment that invites and appreciates them," said Faison

Faison was assistant superintendent for Dougherty County Schools from 1995 to 2001. The school currently has seven full-time staffers.
