ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A Dougherty County business pulled out its checkbook to help the Lee County Animal Shelter's construction effort. Buffalo Rock presented the Lee County Animal Shelter a one thousand dollar 'Pepsi Refresh' check.

The money will be used to buy cat cages which will cost the shelter $13,000. Donna Mathis is hoping Pepsi's Refresh campaign will come through with another $50,000 grant for a much needed spay and neuter program at the shelter but needs the community's help.

"We as bottlers fund with Pepsi nationally to give back to the community and help support local charities and organizations such as this," said Buffalo Rock General Manager Mike McDonald.

"We have a lot of unwanted litters of animals, dogs and cats, and a lot of the animals aren't vaccinated and with the economy like it is it really makes it harder for people to do that," said Pepsi Grant Organizer Donna Mathis.
