South Georgians celebrate their Southern heritage

April 26, 2003

Albany- April is Confederate history month, and South Georgians paid homage to Confederate soldiers and honored Southern Heritage Saturday.

The Albany Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Daughters of the Confederacy sponsored a Confederate Memorial Service.

The crowd honored members of their families who were confederate soldiers. Many participants say this ceremony allows them to come together to show their Southern Pride and to keep traditions alive.

Daughters of the Confederacy president, Ann Jowers, says, "We just want people to realize this is a part of history we will never forget."

Jowers says many of the Confederate organizations give back to the South by performing community service and by giving scholarship awards.
