PHOENIX AZ (WALB) - The Darton golf team has to play catch up in the final 36 holes of the NJCAA Division II golf tournament.
The Cavaliers are 14 shots behind Mesa Arizona Community College.
Mesa posted a second round ten-under par score of 289.
South Mountain shot a 286 and they are five shots back in second.
Darton posted a four-over par 292 and sit in third place.
The Cavaliers could be closer had they gotten a fourth score to match their top three.
Josh Cone, who shot an 80 in the first round, led Darton with a 70.
Roy Steinberg and Jared Wagenaar both shot a 72 which had Darton two-under for their round.
Taylor Wellborn, who opened with a 68 on Tuesday, shot a very disappointing 78 which was Darton's final score while Trey McQuaig's 79 did not count.
Darton will be in the final five groups with Mesa and South Mountain in Thursday's third round.
The final round is Friday.
