VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –A teenager was critically injured in a crash in Lowndes County caused by a suspected drunk driver.

Investigators say 27-year old John Swann was drunk and driving a Nissan pickup truck recklessly down Boring Pond Road around 6:30 Tuesday night.

The truck hit a ditch and flipped.

18-year old Korey Booth was partially ejected and taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he remains in critical condition.

19-year old William Sheppard was also in the truck and suffered an arm injury.

"It's like throwing money out of the window," said Sgt. Brian Gay of the Georgia State Patrol. "If you're involved in an accident where your under the influence and someone loses their life you could go to prison for that. I mean, is it worth going to prison for it? I don't think so."

Swann is charged with DUI and reckless driving.

None of the men was wearing a seatbelt.
