VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –The wet winter and warm spring caused mosquitoes to come out earlier than usual and start spreading West Nile Virus.
One case has already been reported in Georgia.
Health officials say it's never too early to protect yourself.
They say you should use insect repellant with DEET.
Emptying containers filled with water and staying indoors at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active will also help.
"If you are out at those times try to cover yourself as much as possible I know during the summer it's really hard to do because it's so hot but just try and make sure you do have on long sleeves if possible," said Courtney Sheeley with the South Health District.
