ATHENS, GA (WALB) - Georgia's John Smith placed second in the pole vault at the SEC track and field championships on Sunday.

The former Deerfield-Windsor track star matched his personal best in clearing 17 feet three-quarters of an inch at the University of Tennessee track.

Smith was seventh at the SEC indoor meet and was tied sixth in the conference rankings prior to the SEC outdoor meet this weekend.
