ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A helicopter rescued nursing home residents from pirates. At least that was the theme for a fun afternoon as part of National Nursing Home Week.

Organizers from Albany Health Care had a cruise theme all week. They "visited" Hawaii, Italy,  and the far East.

As they ended their cruise Friday afternoon, they got "attacked" by pirates. That's when a team from Cordele came to rescue everyone in their Airvac Helicopter.

Their planned landing location had too much gravel creating dusty conditions, so they had to land in a smaller, grassy lot.

"They have to do that on a day to day basis - land at car wrecks or shootings or stabbings and they really have to thread the needle," said Program Director Greg Dampier.

Residents had a chance to look inside the helicopter and talk to the air ambulance team.
