ALBANY, GA (WALB) -Hundreds of people who support higher education gambled for students to receive their degrees Friday night.

Darton College held its "Blackjack and Scholarship" Gala at the Physical Education Complex. Organizers set up a Las Vegas Style casino on the floor,  complete with blackjack tables and slot machines.

They also showcased auction items. The money raised will help Darton students pay for their education.

"More than 83 percent of students enrolled need some type of financial assistance so the need is tremendous and we have more than 5,800 students and 83 percent need assistance of some kind," said Media Director Krista Robitz.

Darton hopes to raise around $50,000 this year. 70 percent of the money raised will go towards scholarships.
