ALBANY, GA (WALB) –The Dougherty County Special Olympics Spring games was held Friday, with 250 kids taking  part.

Albany State University hosted the games for athletes ranging in age from 8 to 65.

After the opening ceremony, they competed in events including volleyball, track and field, and bocce. The competition gives these special athletes the chance to be big winners.

ASU Executive Assistant Dr. Joshua Murfree said "It gives every person at Albany State University today to know first and foremost, including the teachers and the bus drivers, that they are winners. And today that is what it's all about. The team that got sixth place today screamed just as loudly as the team who got first place."

40 of these masters athletes will be headed to Emory University next week to compete in the State Special Olympic games.
