MCLB, Chevron announce Gas-to-Energy groundbreaking

Albany, Ga. – Groundbreaking for a MCLB Albany/Dougherty County landfill gas-to-energy project is scheduled at the Fleming/Gaissert Road Landfill at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 20.

In Dec. 2009, Dougherty County and MCLB Albany entered into a 20-year partnership (with a five-year option to extend) which allows the county to sell landfill gas produced at the Fleming/Gaissert Road Landfill to MCLB Albany.

The LFG from the site will be used to operate a 1.9Mega-Watt combined heat and power generator for MCLB Albany.

Chevron Energy Solutions developed and designed the project and will maintain the landfill gas-to-energy facility, pipeline and landfill gas processing equipment.

Scheduled to attend the groundbreaking are the honorable Jackalyne Pfannenstiel, assistant secretary of the Navy (energy, installations and environment); Maj. Gen. Carl B. Jensen, commanding general, Marine Corps Installations East; Col. Terry Williams, commanding officer, MCLB Albany; Jeff Sinyard, chairman, Dougherty County Commission; Jim Davis, president, Chevron Energy Solutions and other military and civilian dignitaries.
