DECATUR COUNTY, GA (WALB) – Illinois authorities now want a sexual predator they told Decatur County Sheriff's deputies to let go.

The deputies took 39-year old registered sex offender Stephen McClure into custody Sunday after pulling over a suspicious looking van.

A routine check on the passengers' names came back with a hit on McClure. He is wanted in Illinois on an arrest warrant and weapons charge.

But McClure was released when Illinois authorities said they wouldn't come pick him up.

Now, Illinois and US Marshalls are working to find McClure. The agencies requested information from the Decatur County Sheriff's office Wednesday on McClure and where he may be headed.
