ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Valdosta State Lady Blazers are hosting a Division II regional for a third time in four years.
VSU softball head coach Thomas Macera makes it very clear the goal for this team is to win the national title.
The road to Missouri and the DII softball world series starts this weekend in a regional that includes SIAC champion Albany State, Palm Beach Atlantic and Gulf South rival West Florida. The Lady Blazers open the tournament against Albany State. VSU has swept both regular season meetings with the Lady Rams but the Lady Blazers say they are not counting this game as an automatic win.
Thomas Macera said. "There have beaten some good teams this year that were probably looking past them. We are definitely not going to take them lightly. We are going to pitch our number one pitcher. We are going to do what we have got to do win that first game."
Valdosta State plays Albany State at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the VSU softball complex and West Florida plays at 4:00 p.m. against Palm Beach Atlantic.
