ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Monroe track coach Octavia Jones has fulfilled his dream of becoming a head coach in high school football though his job will take him to one of the Tornadoes biggest rivals.

The Dougherty County School Board Monday night unanimously approved the recommendation to hire Jones as the new head football coach at Westover High.

Jones who has won six state titles as Monroe's track coach and could add a seventh later this week.

He has also been coaching defensive backs at Monroe since 1999.

Former Monroe head coach Vernorris Bradley says Jones did call signals for the secondary while Tornadoes defensive coordinator Clifford Wooten called the defensive sets during Bradley's tenure as head coach from 1999 through 2004.

Jones succeeds Jeff Caldwell who is officially retiring after 30 years of teaching service in Georgia.

Caldwell as WALB News Ten Sports reported Friday has been named head coach at Geneva High School near Dothan, Alabama.

Also as WALB News ten reported last Tuesday, the search continues for an athletic director at Westover High School.
