BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) – A south Georgia Kmart is closing this weekend, leaving sixty-eight employees without a job.

The Bainbridge Kmart located on Shotwell Street will close its doors Sunday. It is one of thirteen stores closing nationwide at this time.

In 2002, Kmart filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It closed three hundred stores, laying off thirty-four thousand employees in the process. Kmart emerged from bankruptcy just two years later.

The Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce says they're committed to helping fill the void left by the Kmart closing.
