ALBANY,  GA (WALB) – Police say a tractor trailer struck and killed a Hispanic pedestrian around 1:00AM Thursday on the Liberty Expressway in Albany, between the Albany Mall and Byne Memorial Baptist Church.

Police say Johnny John Martinez, 25, of Albany was hit by a truck. He has been in Albany for a short time, and most of his immediate family is located in New York City.

Martinez was wearing all dark clothing, trying to cross the northbound lanes and walked into the path of the semi driven by 38-year-old Jason Adkins of Alabama.  Adkins will not be charged.

APD blocked the northbound lanes of traffic from the Nottingham exit to the end of the Expressway for five hours Thursday morning.

Nearly 10 south Georgians have died after being struck by vehicles in the last year.
