By Wainwright Jeffers - bio | email LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) – Terrell County investigators went before a Lee County magistrate judge to get a warrant accusing an area city manager of theft.
Dawson City Manager Barney Parnacott, Junior surrendered at the Lee County Jail Wednesday afternoon.
He was booked on a felony charge of theft by receiving stolen property and was released.
The charge stems from a bulldozer Parnacott bought for $2,600. Another man claims the bulldozer belongs to him.
The warrant claims it's worth $16,000 and Parnacott should have known it was stolen.
The city manager's lawyer says Parnacott bought it from someone in Lee County he thought was the rightful owner, and it's just a misunderstanding.
"He purchased it from someone not knowing that this person didn't own it, I think it will be dismissed in short order I hope," said Flin Coleman, Parnacott's Attorney.
Parnacott is scheduled to be back in court on May 26th for a committal hearing.
