Blazers up three in latest D-II poll

April 21, 2003

Valdosta State (35-14), winners of four of five games last week, moved up three spots to 23rd in this week's (April 21) Collegiate Baseball Top 30.

The Blazers are one of six Gulf South Conference teams in the poll. GSC West leader Delta State (41-7) took over the No. 1 spot for the first time this year, GSC East leader Alabama-Huntsville is 19th, West Florida is 20th, Southern Arkansas is 22nd and West Georgia is 29th.

Valdosta State's main goal heading into their final Gulf South series is to qualify for the conference tournament.

The Blazers sweep of Lincoln Memorial has them tied for second place with West Florida at 12-6, one game behind first place Alabama-Hunstville.

West Georgia is just one game back in fourth and two games back in fifth are North Alabama and West Alabama.

That means the three spots in the GSC baseball tournament will be decided in the final weekend of conference play.
