ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The hiring of Monroe track Octavia Jones to be the new head football coach at Westover has just one more hurdle to clear.
The Dougherty County School Board athletic committee signed off of principal William Chunn's choice to hire Octavia Jones to coach the Patriots.
In a rare move, The athletic committee met Tuesday morning to review the search process and to make sure the school board hiring practices were followed.
Board member Michael Windom says the committee is satisfied and coach Jones will now go before the full board for a vote Monday night.
Michael Windom said. "We always actually monitor for consistency. That is why we put the system into place in the first place."
Windom says Jones is being recommended only for the head coaching job at Westover and the athletic director's job is still open.
In an e-mail to WALB News 10 Tuesday afternoon, Westover High principal William Chunn stated the decision to hire Octavia Jones was made by a committee.
A committee did interview all candidates for the job and did recommend several finalists.
The decision to hire Jones according to a member of the hiring committee was made by principal Chunn.
Chunn also stated that WALB reported Jones was hired at Westover because he played for Chunn when he was the head coach at Monroe.
WALB did not state that is why Jones was hired but did report that fact because of its relevance to the story.
