ALBANY, GA (WALB) – We've seen several inches of rain cover most of south Georgia this morning. The saturated ground has caused some downed trees. And several Albany roads have flooding.
So far there are no reported road closings in southwest Georgia but Albany police say several roads have a lot of water over them. They advise slowing down and using caution while driving to work. And remember a lot of old trees can fall any minute when we get heavy rain events like this one.
That's what happened around 4 AM. A huge tree toppled over the road on Greenwood Drive near the Dawson Road intersection. Albany Police blocked the road and public works crews quickly arrived to cut up the 50 foot tree and push debris to the side.
Public works crews will come by later this morning to clean it up. Over at Eugemar Park on Eugemar Drive picnic tables were unreachable because of the minor flooding.
Police say several roads in the area are covered with water including the 400 block of Baldwin Dr. and the 300 block of East Broad Avenue.
